The Heron Set To Rise In 2010

Published on 27-08-2009 by Skyscrapernews.com
Soon to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of financial devastation in the City of London is the Heron, a residential tower formerly called Milton Court to stand near the Barbican that is being developed by the property company it takes its marketing name from.

Ground works have been carried out by Ardmore and they are expected to bid next month for the full construction contract alongside three other construction giants - Mace, Skanska, Laing O'Rourke - to take on the job at a fixed price with work beginning next year.

This should make it perfectly placed for the approaching upswing in the property market that is just starting to become apparent as the share prices of companies with heavy involvement in the sector increase, whilst domestic and commercial prices are bottoming out, and city investment funds are raising money again to start financing developments.

Designed by David Walker Architects and standing at 111.98 metres tall and with 35 floors above ground, the Heron will not only accommodate 295 apartments in what is the largest residential development built in the City of London since the neighbouring Barbican, but also the new centre for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama that will provide musical and theatre facilities for students, plus those to manage the educational institution.

As well as this, Heron are pretty busy these days. They are hitting the coming up-turn running with the building of the tallest tower in the City of London (until the Pinnacles foundation works are completed and it starts going up), and are working up a 149m tall luxury hotel to stand next to it.
